How to Fix a Gate Keypad That’s Not Working
It can be very frustrating to punch in your correct key code several times into your gate’s keypad and still your gate does not open. We are going to be taking a closer look at a few steps you can take to troubleshoot some common automated gate keypad problems.
Troubleshooting Common Keypad Problems
- Where is the keypad located? The keypad needs to be located a minimum of 6 feet from your automatic gate so you cannot reach through or get entangled in the gate.
- Could your keypad be coming into contact with salt and sand? In snowy areas, a keypad that is near the street could become contaminated with sand and salt from the treated roads. This can cause the inside of the keypad to short out and quick transmitting the connection, which could cause problems with any speakers, lights, microphones and keypads.
- Does the keypad look like it may have been vandalized? If you notice that the keypad does not look like it normally does, it may be because it was vandalized or broken into. Check for any dents, scratches, misalignment or other signs of forced entry.
If you cannot tell what is wrong with your keypad through a visual inspection, you may want to look at how the keypad is powered.
- Is your keypad wired? Most wired keypads need to have at least 12VDC or 12VAC power for them to work.
- Is your keypad wireless? If it has been a while since you have changed the batteries, this could be a simple solution to your problem.
